Once I receive your audio(s) -- or a
sample -- I can provide you with an accurate estimate. I will not
proceed until I receive your approval.
•
Turn-around time
is generally 3 business days (Monday-Friday) unless otherwise agreed upon up front.

For RUSH SERVICE
(less than 3 business day turn-around time) ADD 20% to the Total.
* Rates listed are estimates only. Please
contact me for a rate quote for your specific project. Rates are based on a number of factors which include turn-around
time, audio quality, audio length, general content, requested format, number of speakers, and others. See the table below
for variables that can affect audio quality.
** A low quality audio designation will be made at my sole discretion.
Rates may be adjusted accordingly to the constraints of the audio provided. All rates quoted by me and accepted by you
are final. I will make every effort to provide you with the most complete, accurate transcript of your audio files.
What differentiates my
service from other transcription services?
1) They often outsource to freelancers, whereas I
do all the transcription myself.
2) I provide high quality, very accurate
transcripts when compared to the original audio. Some transcription services rush through and you'll end up with a transcript
that does not accurately reflect the audio in many places, with many sentences that do not make sense.
3) When there is a word or phrase
that is absolutely inaudible, it can be marked (inaudible-54:00), i.e. with a time code in the transcript.
4) I offer a quick turn-around time
at no extra cost (usually 3 business days, possibly more depending on the size of the project and the audio quality).
5) You only pay for the minutes transcribed.
If there are parts you don't want transcribed, they will be deducted from the minutes invoiced. (For example, if you say,
"Don't transcribe from time code 1:30 to 5:00" in the audio.)
6) I'll do whatever is necessary to provide
an accurate transcript, including as much time as necessary researching terms, spelling, etc. on Google to make sure it's
correct.
7) The flat per-audio-minute
rate means that you will know up front the exact cost of your transcription project.
Remember... Less
expensive does not necessarily mean better quality!
General
Payment Terms
Payment is due IMMEDIATELY
upon delivery of the completed document and the PayPal invoice is delivered to you via email.
OR, in the case
of large projects, a 50% deposit may be required up front...
AND/OR incremental
payments may be due IMMEDIATELY upon delivery of SEGMENTS of the project.
SPECIAL NOTE: I do not normally work with clients who need delayed
or monthly billing such as universities, institutions, or business owners that are not able to make immediate
payment upon delivery of an invoice for a project or sub-segments of large projects. However,
feel free to call me for a free consultation, because I may make exceptions for certain types of ongoing work.

Variables
That Can Affect Audio Quality
The
industry standard is that it takes anywhere from 3 or 4, up to 8 or more, hours
to transcribe a 1-hour audio recording, depending on the variables.
| |
 |
 |
|
Variables That
Can Affect Audio Quality:
•
Is there any of background noise?
Try NOT to conduct
audio recordings in noisy environments such as restaurants, coffee shops, or other public places, because it can result
in significantly higher costs to you for transcription.
•
Are the voices muffled or far away from the microphone?
•
Is there any static?
•
Is there any audio distortion due to compressing the audio file?
It is BEST to send me the
ORIGINAL audio file, even it results in a larger file size. See the Audio Formats page for more info on transferring large files.
•
The clarity of the speaker(s) and how many speakers are on the recording.
If more than 1 speaker, is
it an interview situation between 2-3 people, or is it a group/panel discussion? Also, if multiple people speak
on the audio, how easy will it be for me to distinguish their voices from one another?
•
Do they speak in natural, easy-to-identify sentences? Or do they talk
on and on, tying everything together with "and" or other similar connecting words?
•
Do they frequently change thoughts in mid-sentence, or speak with
many false starts and stops, or trail off their sentences without finishing their thoughts?
•
Do they speak very softly?
•
Do they have an accent or do they slur their speech?
•
Do they speak very quickly?
Fast speakers fit more words
into the same amount of audio minutes and, therefore, it takes LONGER to transcribe their material.
ALSO NOTE:
I do not specialize in medical, legal, or any technical terminology...
If
your audio content contains industry-specific terminology that I am not familiar with, I can "google" something I do not understand,
but that will add time and increase your costs.
You can provide a "key" of commonly used unusual
words and/or instruct me to leave a blank line in the transcript instead of taking the time to look up words I cannot
easily understand.
